Barb McSweeney

My love for beauty and art came at an early age while growing up in the charming town of Stowe, Vermont, and continued to grow even more passionately when I moved to Sarasota, Florida and attended the internationally acclaimed Ringling College of Art & Design. As a graduate I later managed and directed my own ad agency for 18 years. It was during that time that I discovered the pure beauty and life of gemstones, and since 2004 my passion for art has now evolved into my dream career as a custom jewelry designer.
I believe not just in the intrinsic beauty of jewelry, but in the symbolism and personal meaning behind each piece. My handmade pieces are unique and handcrafted to be transformed by each woman who wears it. As a designer, I believe that everyone brings their own sense of rhythm, movement, and style to the pieces they choose to wear.My favorite part of the jewelry design process
is getting to know my clients and learning about their aesthetic tastes. The knowledge I gain from my relationship with them is what fuels my ability to create my true custom pieces. I thrived while collaborating with a variety of clientele, from a man anxious to surprise his wife with an exquisite pearl necklace that reflects her stunning beauty, to a daughter seeking to find delicate pearl earrings that remind her of her grandmother's jewelry – an everyday reminder of her presence. The possibilities of one-of-a-kind pieces waiting to be created are truly endless.
Barb was discovered by Saks Fifth Avenue in 2006 and then went on to show with Bloomingdale's. Barb remains active presenting at various luxury resorts including The Ritz-Carlton locations, private trunk shows, fundraising at galas, designing personal collections, and here ... online. Barb's unique pearl pieces travel back to homes around the world.
Pearls have fascinated people from the time they were first found in artifacts in Mesopotamia until the present and are among nature's most fascinating creations. In fact, pearls are unique among gemstones because they do not arise from the depths of the earth but rather from the sea. They require no special cutting or polishing to maximize their lustrous beauty, which has been treasured since ancient times and ensures that pearl jewelry is always in style.
“Pearls are believed to attract wealth and luck, as well as, offer protection. Known for their calming effect, pearls can balance one's karma, strengthen relationships, and is believed by many to keep children safe. The pearl is also said to symbolize the purity, generosity, integrity, and loyalty of its wearer.”
My vision is to design and create unique and distinctive jewelry that captures both the timeless romance of the classic pearl and the joie de vivre of today's empowered woman.
